Ole Miss Football History
The Ole Miss football program began in 1893. The Rebels were initially known as the “Mississippi Flood,” but the name was changed to the “Rebels” in 1936. Ole Miss experienced its golden age in the 1950s and 1960s, under the leadership of head coach Johnny Vaught. Vaught led the Rebels to three national championships (1959, 1960, and 1962) and 10 conference championships.
